The high up people at MCSO think the solution to staffing is to keep raising the pay for officers. Yes the pay is nice, but when you have to be on call constantly and work non stop overtime, it’s not worth losing your personal life, your mental and physical health and the constant feeling of just being tired. Management doesn’t care, every time officer pay goes up, so does theirs. They don’t work overtime. They get their days off. They get their cush job sitting in an office making 6 figures, plus all their fringe benefits. Meanwhile staffing is always short and expected to do more with less manpower. And don’t get me started on the constant threats from management about writing people up and firing them. It’s literally every shift you get threatened and it’s usually something an individual did, not the whole shift. Why threaten all of us, if one person is at fault. It’s because they have “god syndrome.”
