The City of Mart is now facing a major public scandal. According to the booking information released, Mart Chief of Police Shane James was booked into the McLennan County Jail on 5/14/2026 on charges including: DWI – Open Alcohol Container Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon Collision Involving Damage to Vehicle >= $200 And almost immediately after his mugshot was released, the City of Mart posted notice of a special meeting to discuss his “continuing operations” as the City Administrator/Chief of Police.
Let that sink in.
The man wearing the badge and supposedly enforcing the law is now the one sitting in jail facing serious criminal charges. I’m also being told by sources that this may not be his first DWI, and that an earlier incident was allegedly covered up. If that is true, the public deserves answers immediately.
No special treatment.
No backroom protection.
No badge-based immunity.
If an ordinary citizen gets arrested for DWI, unlawfully carrying a weapon, and a crash, they don’t get to hide behind a title. They don’t get a private cushion from accountability. So why should a police chief?
The people of Mart deserve honesty, transparency, and immediate action. Someone entrusted with enforcing the law should be held to a higher standard, not a lower one. If these allegations and charges hold, then this man has no business serving in law enforcement. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Sunlight is the best disinfectant.
