READER RANT TIRED OF THE SAME OLD RICH MAN POLITICS AND SUCCESSIONS

Notice how John Erwin is looking down, even HE can’t make eye contact with tiny Scott Felton after they ripped off the county on yet another one. Ever see someone look guiltier than Erwin?

Yeah, old boys, WE get it.

I was just thinking about how on earth one can get a free election in this town when all the rich old men name their successor in bullshit statements like when Felton said he wouldn’t run again IF there was someone HE approved of that was just as good as him or better. God help us.

SO, this means if you go to Antioch Church and have gazillions of dollars you can be a Judge or whatever the hell you want because the old men who are in charge will help you and your riches to make more riches for yourself and your relatives, just like Scott Felton did for the economic health of John Erwin his ex brother in law who became his BRO in money. Now we have the old jail which was called “Bobby’s Folly” when it was built in the first place. Unfortunately, if you’re in a wheelchair you’re hard to beat in an election also. Bobby’s jail was obsolete when ground was broken, everyone told him, BUT, he didn’t listen, now he’s dead and it’s going to cost a fortune to make into other courtrooms. Would have been cheaper and better to build a law center but, hey, I’m not a rich white man, I just pretend to be one so I can say dirty words on this blog.

Don’t let them keep doing this, please.

Dear Harry,

I’m writing to share my concerns about the upcoming elections in McLennan County—and the growing pattern of wasteful spending and insider politics that voters need to pay attention to.

Recently, I was caught in the middle of yet another construction project downtown. This inconvenience was just a small reminder of a larger issue: how easily tax dollars are being spent without proper oversight or accountability. It’s no surprise when you consider that our retiring County Judge, Scott Felton, is now endorsing one of his associates to take his place. This endorsement is part of a troubling trend, and voters should be asking serious questions.

Scott Felton has operated unchecked for years. He’s awarded repeated contracts to individuals with personal connections—including family members—without transparency. He’s become the center of a system where friendships and favors seem to matter more than responsible leadership. And now, instead of stepping aside, he’s trying to handpick his replacement. That’s not leadership—it’s politics as usual.

I’m not against progress, but I am against waste. We don’t need overpriced, overdesigned buildings that cost taxpayers millions more than necessary. A basic, functional structure gets the job done just as well as a flashy one. To use a simple example: a $5 wallet holds your money just as well as a $500 designer wallet. In McLennan County, we keep getting sold the $500 version—and we’re the ones footing the bill.

It’s time we stop letting long-term incumbents and their inner circles make decisions without being challenged. Voters must ask: who’s really benefiting from these expensive projects? Why are the same people getting the contracts? And why is no one demanding accountability?

I won’t vote for anyone Felton endorses. That endorsement tells me everything I need to know. It’s time to break up the good old boy system and bring in leaders who care more about public service than personal gain.

Sincerely,

Fed up taxpayer
