MISS HONEYBOTTON SENDS READER RANT

Miss BeeHaven’s Reader Rant to Harry

Well, butter my biscuit and call Harry corrected!

Apparently, Bambi did NOT start the MCSO Facebook page! And bless that clever little reader’s heart for setting the record straight. See, sugar, that’s how this works. Somebody presents information, somebody else corrects it, and we all move along a little smarter.

Now, wouldn’t it be just precious if the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office operated with that same level of transparency? Lord have mercy, we’d have to start handing out smelling salts! 😂

But y’all go right ahead and PARTY ON, BAMBI AND SNICKERS! 🎉

Meanwhile, I’ve got a little question that’s been rolling around in my head like a loose marble in a Mason jar.

WHY IN THE SWEET NAME OF TEXAS WOULD A TEXAS RANGER LEAVE ONE OF THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS LAW ENFORCEMENT POSITIONS IN THE ENTIRE STATE TO BECOME A CHIEF DEPUTY IN MCLENNAN COUNTY, WHERE HIS WIFE JUST HAPPENS TO WORK?

Now, honey, I realize we’re supposed to smile sweetly, mind our manners, and accept whatever explanation comes floating down from the sheriff’s throne, but some of us still possess a functioning brain cell or two.

A TEXAS RANGER, y’all!

Not a mall security guard looking for better hours. Not somebody hoping to move up from directing traffic at the county fair.

A TEXAS RANGER!

And we’re supposed to believe that becoming chief deputy in McLennan County was simply an opportunity too magnificent to pass up?

Well, slap some lipstick on that pig and enter it in the county fair, because I’d surely love to hear the sales pitch! 💋

Was it the salary? The retirement? The irresistible atmosphere of county politics? The opportunity to work in the same organization as his wife?

Or is there a chapter in this little career fairy tale that the taxpayers haven’t been invited to read?

And here’s the question I’d REALLY like answered: Was leaving the Texas Rangers entirely his choice, and what exactly led to that decision?

Now, before somebody gets their starched drawers in a wad, I’m not accusing anybody of wrongdoing. I’m asking a perfectly legitimate question about the career move of a public official.

Because, sweetheart, there’s a mighty big difference between making an accusation and asking somebody to explain something that makes about as much sense as putting screen doors on a submarine.

And around here, it seems every time somebody asks an uncomfortable question, the pearl-clutching committee comes running out hollering about how disrespectful everybody is.

Well, bless your hearts. Public service isn’t a royal inheritance, a family reunion, or a private country club. And taxpayers aren’t obligated to sit quietly on the porch while somebody tells them everything is just peachy.

So party on, Bambi and Snickers! Shake those pom-poms, polish those halos, and keep that sweet little celebration going.

The rest of us will be over here wondering how a Texas Ranger ended up in the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office and why nobody seems particularly interested in explaining the circumstances.

SOMETHING AIN’T RIGHT WITH THIS STORY, WILLIS!

And honey, I don’t need a Texas Ranger badge to recognize when a story has more holes than Granny’s favorite crocheted tablecloth.

Now somebody fetch me my pearls and a fresh glass of sweet tea. I do believe I’ve got another question! 😂🍹

Bless their hearts. Every last one of ’em.
