THOUGHTS ON AN EXECUTION

“The best you can hope for is that which makes one stop and ponder”, well, today Harry is doing just that when he found out that Nidal Hasan, set for execution by firing squad televised,, is in a wheelchair.

Lee Harvey Oswald

Lee Harvey Oswald (October 18, 1939 – November 24, 1963) was a U.S. Marine veteran who assassinated John F. Kennedy, the 35th president of the United States,

For a lot of us our first Execution was live on November 24, 1963 when Jack Ruby walked up and shot Lee Harvey right there at the Dallas Police Department in black and white.

I think black and white made people more handsome, so did those fabulous streams of smoke from their cigarettes, and it made other things much more just creepy.

Didn’t have to look it up on google either, I was 15 and it is etched forever in my memory as it is in everyone my age who saw it live.

I was gestated in a Catholic Home for Unwed (Baptist) Girls, born in a Catholic Hospital, schooled at Catholic School and am personally responsible for the Sufferings of Christ on Station of the Cross #9 where I spent every Friday in Lent for 16 years.

My name also contains the Litany of the Saints, don’t even ask.

Of course, the nuns, Dominicans in menopause, were crying, everyone was going totally insane over Kennedy. Jackie, on and on.

Things were going on the tv, and there were no facts, still aren’t the greatest Conspiracy Theory time of my life until now.

That said, I will tell you that seeing the Suffering Christ every week probably didn’t make me a “better” person, the smoke, the Latin, everything was designed so no one understood anything. I then went home to a Czechoslovokian (2nd generation) family that just didn’t speak English nor did they teach it to the kids because they talked shit about us in front of us.

However, I was like a chihuhua mix dog, I got the “tone”.

I still “get it”, even when I don’t.

Now we are facing an execution by firing squad on television of a man in a wheelchair.

Everyone seems all aglow that it’s the first one ever, yet, for those of us who remember that surprising day LIVE ON TV is it?

No.

Especially coming off the heels of the State of Wherever not being able to execute a woman after six or seven tries just two weeks ago.

I’m pretty much a hologram about it, some of my friends are for it, some are not, I am everything I hate as I agree with whomever I am talking to like a Stepford Wife from Woodway Baptist.

Coke Mills, who was “all that” and a true gentleman once said to me after losing an election to Bobby Thomas who was wheelchair told me, that he had told Mr. Pogue, he was going to run for the Legislature, Pogue said I that he thought Bob Thomas was going to run.

Pogue said, “Hasn’t anyone told you that running against a man in a wheelchair is an uphill battle?”

Don’t get me started on Coke Mills in a seersucker suit with the timing of the best comedians when he said something clever.

On days like this I’m glad to be old and wish a lot of my OLD AS FK friends (mostly male) would settle for watching how the younger people handle it, and not just offer bottomless 1955 edicts that don’t hold water in modern day life anymore.

“I don’t know”, isn’t a bad place to be.

You?
