Dear Harry,
FAFO of the Day:
Waco Jeweler Indicted in Alleged $1.5 Million Jewelry Scheme Well… this isn’t exactly the kind of “bling” you want your business associated with. According to a federal indictment obtained by KWTX News 10, Michael Wayne Habern Jr., owner of Waco Jewelers, and Clemond Earl Busby have been indicted on charges including conspiracy to launder monetary instruments, accessory after the fact, and misprision of a felony. (Go ahead… look up misprision in your Funk & Wagnalls. We’ll wait.
)
Federal prosecutors “allege” that a crew carried out a string of armed robberies at jewelry stores and pawn shops across Texas between January and May 2025, obsconding with more than $1.5 million worth of jewelry. According to the indictment, some of that allegedly stolen jewelry was still sitting in the original display boxes… with the price tags still attached. That’s about as subtle as robbing a bank in a shirt that says “I
Bank Robbery.” Investigators allege the jewelry was brought to Habern and Busby, who allegedly paid cash for it and failed to complete the required state reporting paperwork.
Comment below any thoughts you might have on the subject. As always, an indictment is only an accusation, not a conviction. Everyone is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court. Gen X Moral of the Story: If somebody shows up with a mountain of brand-new jewelry, still wearing store tags, and wants cash… maybe that’s the universe whispering, “This might not be the investment opportunity you’re looking for.” Sometimes the “Find Out” part follows the “Fool Around” part a lot faster than expected.
