READER REFLECTION ON PAR’S WIN

So Jeff lost.

He wasn’t able to overcome that cowboy image and the McNamarra name. During the process, everyone I talked to said how hard it is to unseat an incumbent, but that Jeff was doing everything right.

And I’m sure Parnell and his people are doing a victory lap right now and patting themselves on the back.  I’m also sure all the fence riders are now telling Parnell how they were always on his side.

However,  fuck them.

This is temporary.

If anyone thinks Parnell has four more years in him, then send em my way.  I got some oceanfront property in the desert to sell them.  Tons of beach, not much ocean.  Kinda like Parnell’s career.  And Cody is just a pale imitation of that.

So that leads us to this, Parnell doesn’t just get to pass down Sheriff to his adopted son Cody.  Now Cody is telling people that in six months time he’ll be sheriff.  However, it doesn’t work like that.

If Parnell dies or steps down in the first two years of his term, it goes to special election.  If Parnell dies or steps down in the last two years, then it goes to the Commissioners Court to appoint his successor.  And keep in mind, the county commissioners already said no to Cody once when Parnell asked.

So that leads us to either a special election or a general election with an appointed interim sheriff.  

And Jeff gave Parnell a run for his money.  Jeff had tons of support and energy in his campaign.  That youth and that support isn’t going anywhere.  However, the old folks who voted for the image and the name,  they’re fewer by the day.  And Cody has neither an image or a name.
