The Waco Trib is reporting that King #Felton is proposing a Tax Increase for McLennan County which will result in an increase to the average property tax payer’s bill of $91.00 per year. The Tax Increase is being justified to support pay raises to attract and RETAIN Law Enforcement Officers and Jail Staff.

“Much of the increase will support pay raises intended to attract and retain law enforcement officers and correctional facility staff, along with a 1.76% cost-of-living adjustment for all other county employees,” said County Auditor Frances Bartlett, who spearheads county budget preparation.
He said recruiting people to staff the sheriff’s office and jail remains a point of emphasis, and that the county would like to make each a popular career path.
“We need to hire and retain motivated people because it takes 18 months to two years to train someone,” Felton said. “Retention is like insurance. If you don’t have it, it will cost you in the long run.”
